Education

on the button’s education strand is integral to our role as theatre makers. Whether it is taking mask making workshops with elderly people who were interviewed for No Place Like, or doing rhythm and ensemble workshops with young people with Tourette’s Syndrome for Witty Ticcy Ray, our education outlet informs and enhances all areas of our work.

Our workshops are tailored to suit the needs of the people who are coming to work with us. But whoever we work with, the key emphasis is on playing together as an ensemble and learning from each other as we go.

Being a Lecoq trained company, we tend to cover Lecoq based skills in our workshops, but we also branch out to other aspects of creating if and when required! The workshops may include:

  • Creating a story from scratch
  • Chorus and ensemble work
  • Verbatim- led story making
  • Object manipulation
  • Mime
  • Rhythm and movement skills
  • Adapting a text
  • Mask making

We have a proven track record of taking Lecoq workshops with schools and colleges around the country. Here are just a few things people have said about us:

“A lot of ground was covered in a relatively short space of time…The best workshop we have received so far.”
– Chris, Head of Drama at Yate International Academy.

“The Workshop… promoted a real ensemble and physical approach. What was superb for us as teachers was to watch our students (who previously had not all worked together) coming together to create some new and innovative pieces of work.”
– Marie Hood, Head of Drama, Newent Community school

“We loved it! Can you come back soon?!”
– Diana, Head of drama, Rendcomb College
